Students carrying out an experiment in the STEAM Centre lab

Maple Building

Regional Science and Technology
STEAM Centre.

A science and education facility with university-level equipment, truly unique among secondary schools. The centre is open to all generations.

What Is STEAM

Five Disciplines.
The Power of Connecting Them.

STEAM is a modern approach to education that meaningfully connects science, technology, engineering, the arts and mathematics to tackle specific tasks, projects and real-world problems.

Science

natural sciences

Physics, chemistry and biology in practice. We formulate research questions, carry out experiments and test scientific hypotheses.

Technology

technology

Robotics, programming and artificial intelligence from theory to practice. We design technological solutions, test how they work and develop innovative thinking.

Engineering

engineering and construction

Technical design, construction and prototyping. We apply engineering principles, solve complex problems and test how our designs work.

Arts

arts and creativity

Design, visual arts and creative work. We apply design thinking principles, develop visual literacy and connect creative thinking with science and technology.

Mathematics

mathematics

Applied mathematics, algorithms and data analysis. We model real-life situations, evaluate results and use mathematical methods to optimise solutions.

A Centre for Interdisciplinary Learning

The STEAM Centre Concept

A unique environment for discovering, innovating and sharing know-how together, bringing students, teachers, experts and the public together.

A Bridge Between Schools

We connect private and state schools, opening up shared workshops, educational programmes and spaces for sharing experience and know-how to children and teachers alike.

Workshops for Children

Hands-on programmes in genetics, molecular biology and working with scientific measuring instruments.

International Curriculum

Children from state schools can study elements of an international curriculum.

Workshops for Seniors and Adults

Meaningful learning for older people and adults interested in science, technology and the arts, with science outreach and intergenerational meetings.

Teacher Training

A place for teachers’ professional development and sharing good practice.

Inquiry-Based Learning

Sunny Canadian International School’s training centre for students and teachers. A place for inquiry-based teaching of STEAM subjects and experimental work.

STEAM Centre: an open space for science, technology, discovery and collaboration across generations and schools.

Six Classrooms. A Multipurpose Hall.
University-Level Equipment.

Unique specialist classrooms and labs with university-level equipment. Each is named after a figure who shaped their field and still inspires new generations today.

Students carrying out physics experiments in the Einstein lab

Applied Physics

Einstein – Physics Classroom
and Lab.

The specialist physics classroom and lab features a Tesla coil, a Wimshurst machine, optical benches and experiment kits for testing Newton’s laws. Thanks to an extensive range of Vernier sensors, students can explore magnetic fields, voltage and power, gas pressure, mechanical stress and motion in a gravitational field. The sensors connect wirelessly to phones, tablets and computers, turning measured data into graphs instantly. In terms of sensor equipment, our school ranks among the two best-equipped schools in the Czech Republic.

Applied Chemistry

Curie – Chemistry Classroom
and Lab.

The specialist chemistry classroom and lab is equipped with modern analytical instruments that let students take precise measurements and carry out advanced experiments. A spectrophotometer is used to determine the concentration of solutions based on light absorption, while a photometer analyses substances, for example in water or soil samples. With Vernier sensors, students can monitor chemical processes, collect data and run both short- and long-term experiments.

Biology and Natural Sciences

Goodall – Natural Sciences
and Biology Lab.

The specialist biology classroom and lab offers a base for exploring life, from human anatomy to molecular genetics. It is equipped with modern microscopes that can connect to a camera, stereo microscopes for observing 3D objects, 3D models of the human body and skeleton, and specialised Edvotek lab equipment. Here students can carry out advanced experiments, analyse DNA and proteins, use gel electrophoresis or examine microorganisms.

Applied Mathematics

Fields – Mathematics
Classroom.

The specialist maths classroom combines advanced teaching of applied mathematics with the creative use of 3D technology. Junior High and High School students not only develop their maths skills here, but also design their own 3D models, prepare them for printing and bring them to life on six Creality 3D printers. Mathematical thinking connects naturally with technology and hands-on creation.

Robotics and Programming

Berners-Lee – Computer Science
and Robotics Classroom.

The programming and robotics classroom provides a professional setting for developing digital skills and technological innovation. It is equipped with 25 Lenovo ThinkCentre Neo computers with Intel i5 processors and 16 GB of RAM, VEX and LEGO SPIKE Prime robotics kits and more than 30 programmable micro:bit microcomputers. Students design, program and test their own robotic systems and innovative IoT solutions for smart homes and modern farming.

Design and Creative Work

Mucha – Art
Studio.

The Mucha art studio combines project-based learning with developing artistic skills and conceptual and critical thinking. Students work with a wide range of materials and techniques, create their own artistic concepts and explore the possibilities of visual communication. Through projects, they reflect on their identity, social values and current issues. They learn to experiment, take on creative challenges and develop their own artistic voice.
