Sunny Canadian is an English language school offering a North American Education in Prague. Our educational plan has been approved by and follows the guidelines set forth by the Czech Ministry of Education as well. We provide a fun, safe and loving learning environment where your child’s social, emotional, physical and cognitive development is fostered and their love for knowledge and education is encouraged. We believe that children learn best through playing in a hands-on atmosphere. We believe that when children are given positive and constructive options to choose from-they will make positive and constructive choices. We maintain a low teacher to student ratio of 2 teachers to 12 children to ensure that you child’s individual needs are met.
Emotional Development
We believe that the teachers and staff should create a happy, engaging atmosphere and interact with children in a warm and friendly way. We believe that our staff help children to develop and express a range of emotional responses that are appropriate for their developmental needs. We believe that children's self esteem is fostered in a positive environment and where staff encourages children to try new experiences and understand the world.
Social Development
We believe in developing a sense of cooperation and empathy in children through group activity and responsibility, sharing toys, and guiding children's behavior when angered or upset.
Physical Development
It is important for children to develop both small and large motor skills. Small motor skills activities will be provided to help children develop the small muscles in their hands and fingers to improve manual dexterity, and improve their hand eye coordination. These activities can also increase the child’s attention span, encourage persistence in a task, foster independence, and develop problem solving and thinking skills. Large motor skills activities will provide the foundation for all future movement and exercise. Children will be encouraged to develop these skills at their own pace and in a safe environment.
Thematic units
Our curriculum is based in thematic unit studies. A thematic unit provides content as well as a framework for organizing learning activities. Through a wide range of subject matter, varied experiences and educational activities encouraging active participation, Children develop necessary skills and gain valuable information.
Thematic Unit Letters
We value strong communication between parents and their children’s teachers. At the end of every unit your child studies you will receive a letter from their teacher that will keep you informed about exactly what your child has been doing.
Evaluations
At the end of each term, parents will receive a progress report from the child’s teacher and will be given the opportunity to sign up for a parent teacher conference. It is also possible to schedule a meeting with class teachers during the term.
