Curriculum

Our school education program is called "Sunny Canadian - a bridge to the world" which came into being on September 1st 2006.  Through the process of education, innovation and constant self-evaluation, we regularly update our curriculum to ensure that our students are always being challenged and reaching their full potential.

In accordance with our education motto, “Communicating across the world,” one half of grade subjects are taught in English.

The curriculum is supplemented with additional extra courses, several of which are taught in English to further the students language learning.  The content of the optional extra course is used to deepen and strengthen the basic curriculum.

The program “Sunny Canadian- a bridge to the world” is based on five basic principles:

1) Education for Life

The goal of any school should be to help create well-rounded students who have an appetite for learning about everything that surrounds them.  At Sunny Canadian School, we strive for each student to achieve his/her personal best in terms of knowledge and skill, and above all to awaken a deeper interest in all areas of knowledge- science, humanities and art, while also nurturing individual talents and interests.

2) Education for Understanding
In accordance with the National Plan for teaching foreign languages, we teach our students to communicate in Czech, English and a third foreign language.  We strive to create citizens of the world; students who are aware of the world around them and who take responsibility for their actions and behavior.  Tolerance for diversity, cooperation, willingness to share experiences and to help those in need are keys to leading a successful life in the era of globalization and are principles that are emphasized in every Sunny Canadian classroom.

3) Healthy Lifestyle and Ecology

The area surrounding the school allows teachers to implement environmental lessons in the school garden, the field, and the meadows in the woods, as well as at the park or the nearby pond.  Children learn about the wonders of nature, how to care for plants, animals, and the Earth.  Also, every classroom is given a class pet to study and nurture.  Twice per year, students are taken on trips to the Czech countryside where they are taught about sports, fitness, and healthy eating and the positive impact they have on the body.  The school cafeteria also plays a significant role in meeting this goal by offering a large variety of modern, healthy dishes.  At every meal, we offer an unlimited amount of vegetables and fruit, as well as a hot meat dish and a hot vegetarian dish.  The family friendly atmosphere that is encouraged by Sunny Canadian School helps to minimize stress, as our primary goal is to create a school in which children feel free to come and enjoy learning.

4) Personal Development

Students, their parents and our teachers are considered to be partners in each child’s education career.  All share a commitment to nurturing the self-esteem, self-awareness, conscience and independence of each student.  We set ourselves the task of proactively promoting student development, encouraging each individual to be creative and an agent for change in their own lives.  Student work is used as part of the interior decoration of the classrooms and of the school, and are also used in teaching, promoting the school, for charitable purposes, which promotes pride in their work.  Students are encouraged to be active participants in their own education, to give suggestions and ideas for topics and activities, and to participate in the planning and preparation of various school-wide traditions and events.

5) Open Communication

Open communication and cooperation with parents, other educational organizations and associations, other schools around the world, and experts in the field of education, as well as staying current with new education trends and developments are the cornerstones of Sunny Canadian School.  Regular evaluations by the parents and self-evaluation by the teachers and administration are a regular part of the process to constantly improve upon all areas of education in the school.
